I was looking through an old flash drive and came across some short film scripts I never produced. This one came to me one day when I heard the ice cream truck coming down my block. It’s short but sweet, pun intended.
INT. LIVING ROOM – DAY
KARI, 26, dressed in sweat pants, flannel shirt and a scarf tied around her head, sits on the couch as she lazily flips through the channels on her TV.
The sound of an ice cream truck can be faintly heard from outside. Kari mutes the TV and hears the truck. She suddenly jumps up off the couch and runs out of the room.
INT. BEDROOM – DAY
Kari searches a desk. She turns over papers, upturns cups, opens drawers until she finally finds a stash of coins. As she runs out of the room she takes off the flannel shirt revealing a tank top underneath.
INT. HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS
Kari hastily takes off her sweat pants and underneath are shorts.
INT. BATHROOM – CONTINUOUS
Kari runs in front of the mirror and takes off her scarf. Her hair is wrapped around her head, she takes a brush and bushes it down. She grabs a lipstick and applies some to her lips. Then she runs out of the room.
EXT. STREET – DAY
There is a line of children standing in front of the ice cream truck. Kari runs out of her house then calmly walks to the line.
EXT. ICE CREAM TRUCK – DAY
As Kari reaches the window, the ICE CREAM MAN, 30 and hot enough to melt all of the ice cream within a five mile radius, smiles at her.
ICE CREAM MAN
Strawberry shortcake right?
Kari smiles brightly at him.
KARI
Yep.
He reaches down into the freezer and pulls out the ice cream and hands it over. Kari gives him the coins in exchange. They smile at each other for a long time. The Ice Cream Man opens his mouth to speak when…
KID (O.S.)
Move already! I want some ice cream!
Kari turns around and sees a chubby kid standing behind her. Kari moves to leave.
KARI
(exasperated)
If I were you I’d push away from the table.
Kari walks back into her house.
INT. KITCHEN – DAY
Kari takes the ice cream and throws it into the freezer on top of fifty other strawberry shortcake bars.
